The difference with same sex weddings at Micklefield is that there is no difference! Since November 2004, following the legalisation of civil partnerships, Micklefield Hall has welcomed many same sex marriages.
The very first gay wedding that we held, was for the gorgeous couple, Laura and Amanda. A glorious, sunny summer’s day in July 2008, the flowers were in full bloom and the ceremony took place in our romantic temple. Both brides looked truly elegant and their love for each other was so evident.
“Our wedding day was truly magical at Micklefield. We had the most glorious day weather wise and our civil ceremony by the lake was so special to us both. It is a day that we will never forget, and we were so grateful to Jamie and Anna for helping us create such a fabulous occasion for all. They made every effort to accommodate our every wish and helped to create a relaxed and informal vibe which we loved.
The day ran so smoothly, and this was down to Micklefield’s staff attending to our every need. Our close friends still tell us that it was one of the best weddings they have ever been to – which makes us smile!
We welcomed our guests with chilled drinks on the lawn along with some canapes which were gorgeous. The stroll down to the lake was memorable and the grounds of Micklefield are always so well kept. The flowers were in full bloom and the colours and smells were delightful.
Our ceremony was fairly relaxed in the smouldering heat and we exchanged vows and rings and became partners for life.”
Before the renovation of Micklefield Hall’s Great Barn in 2014, Jamie and Anna would welcome the wedding party into their stunning manor house, dating back to 1740. Guests would be able to enjoy their wedding breakfast, seated in the grand rooms of the house, redesigned by Sir John Soane in the late 18th Century.
“We had our Wedding Breakfast in the dining room of the family house. Our caterers were recommended by Anna and Jamie and we couldn’t have been happier with the food and presentation. We were able to create our own bespoke menu and we even had wine and food tasting sessions before our big day.
By the time the 27th July 2008 came around, we really felt as if Jamie and Anna knew us well – they had made the whole process so enjoyable and we had every confidence that it was going to be the best day ever – and it was!”
